Reporting Center (Day, Evening & Weekends)

The Reporting Center program is an alternative to detention for juvenile offenders who would usually be detained in the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. This community-based program offers supervision and counseling to youth seven days a week through the RC staff.

Our Program

As participating youth await hearings, the RCs serve as a short-term program. The dedicated staff focuses on engaging the youth in positive activities during the times when they are most likely to reoffend. These activities, including educational activities, recreational programs, and life skills development workshops, are designed to provide the youth with valuable skills and experiences to benefit them. Transportation is provided to and from the center for each youth to ensure they are accounted for and return home by a specific time. Additionally, meals are provided to all participating youth.

The Curriculum

Reporting Centers (RCs) offer a variety of services to meet the needs of participants through a specialized curriculum. This curriculum has been approved by the Cook County Juvenile Probation Department and PhD-level educators. All centers are required to use the curriculum and adhere to the Balanced & Restorative Justice (BARJ) Principles to address common issues that minors encounter.

Program Goals

Through the use of qualified staff and specialized curriculum, our goal is to help juveniles reduce their risk of reoffending. We achieve this by:

  • Providing highly structured, well-supervised individual and group activities.
  • Offering opportunities for adolescents to enhance their strengths and gain new skills to reduce their risk of re-offend.
  • Ensuring that they attend court appearances as required, reducing the likelihood of re-arrest and enabling the minor to continue attending school and remain at home.

The Reporting Centers (RCs) operate 7 days a week. Programming and group sessions times are as follows:

  • Monday-Friday 11:00 AM-3:00 PM
  • Monday-Friday 5:00 PM- 9:00 PM
  • Saturday-Sunday 10:00AM-6:00PM
